Solar Grid-Tie home systems
Why Consider Solar for Your Home?
Using solar for all, or part, of your home’s electrical
needs makes sense, not only financially, but also environmentally..
- Utility tied solar electric systems are less expensive than
ever
- They can reduce the amount of electricity you purchase from
your local utility
- You will be producing reliable, clean power that reduces
the burning of fossil fuels to contribute to a healthier environment
- Solar electric systems are quiet, operate automatically,
require very little maintenance and need no fuel except sunshine!
Most utility companies now allow grid tie systems. The following
systems allow you to connect to the utility grid and either balance
off your usage or get paid for the electricity you produce. All
of our systems are designed and built to meet the Ontario Electrical
Code.
Your utility company may offer the "Standard Offer Program"
or a "Net Metering Program".
Standard Offer Program
The Standard Offer Program that is offered by most utility companies
in Ontario is where the utility company purchases electricity
that you produce at a rate of $.42 per kilowatt for solar electricity,
any hydro you buy from the utility company will only cost you
the current rate per kilowatt. Our Grid Tie Kits without batteries
work on this program.
Net Metering
Net Metering uses the excess electricity you produce to spin
your meter backwards and when your grid tie system does not produce
enough energy for your household the additional power is purchased
from the utility company, thus making your meter spin forward.
Our Grid Tie Kits with or without batteries work on this program.
To determine the size of system for your requirements you first
need to identify your electrical loads. Just check your utility
bill to see what your kW consumption is per month then divide
that figure by the number of days in the month. This gives you
your daily kW consumption. This is usually the jump-off point.
However, depending on the program offered by your utility, you
may want to off set just a portion of your electrical loads.
Whatever the case, we will work with you to determine the best
system for your situation.
Basically there are two different types of Grid Tie Systems:
with and without batteries. All of our Solar Grid Tie Kits with
or without batteries provide reliable power using only top quality
products. Each system includes 25 year warranty on Solar Modules,
roof mount frames and our installed kits include all electrical
permits, GST and PST. All of our Kits are designed so that you
may add additional solar modules in the future if you wish. Our
kits include roof mounting of the solar panels, however if this
is not suitable, a pole mount option is available.
Grid-Tie Systems without Batteries
Sun Volts Unlimited Grid Tie Systems Without Batteries are systems
generating electricity using a solar array and converting it to
grid electricity through an inverter. The supply of power is dependent
on the grid being active. If the grid goes down so does the power
to your home.
